I'm writing this from our gate at Delhi International Airport, although you folks won't get to see it to tomorrow because I am too cheap to pay for wifi. So far the trip has been smooth. Our bus to Chicago was on time, and Dhan didn't have go through any extra security red tape, so we were on our way! Having now seen O'Hare, I still maintain that MSP is the coolest airport in the country.
The 15 hour flight to Delhi was long but also uneventful. The plot thickened on our arrival to Delhi. The airport is almost brand new, but they haven't figured out a system for international transfers yet. Therefore, the first two hours of my 5 hour layover were spent in a small waiting area, waiting for our flight to be called so we could claim our boarding passes. This was hugely inefficient because all airlines were operating out of the same desk. On top of that, the process wasn't very clearly marked. Luckily, Dhan slept better than I did on the flight and was able to figure it out.
About an hour and a half ago, we got to go through security and enter the main part of the terminal. That was a surprise! The shops were all shiny and new, and there was yummy food everywhere! We were back in civilization again. Below are pictures of Dhan and I enjoying a nutritious snack at the food court. I have no pictures from the staging area (we were pretty cranky) so you can't see the contrast. You'll just have to trust me.
The first part of culture shock set in for me. I didn't realize that I would have to adapt to India on just a short 5 hour layover, but that's how it goes. I hope I can come back and actually get out of the airport sometime.
When you get this, you will know I am safely in Malaysia having a great time. More pictures and updates soon!
On the bus.
